Projects

A contemporary, multimedia series that combines graphic art, digital prints, and bold typography to celebrate movement and form and the women who create vivid imagery and honor the ancestors through Bomba dancing which has a long history in Puerto Rico and continues to boldly represent the will, perseverance, and generational triumph of the African and Taino people.

Taino people are known for their pictoglyphs, carved into cave walls and rocks all over the Caribbean islands. This program increases cultural awareness and appreciation as we learn about the Taino people and explore the meaning in the messages they left behind. Participants will connect the dots between this ancient form of communication and the digital glyphs we use to communicate via text messages and chats today. Working with clay to carve or mold symbols, shapes, lines, and forms artists can create their own symbols of cultural identity.

Original small scale artworks made to trade and collect. Each mini-canvas is 2.5″ x 3.5″ gouache on high quality watercolor paper.
